Single tracking the Tier - Waverly to Owego OCT 06, 2010
A slightly chilly and damp Wednesday morning along the Tier. A trip to Owego and back to Waverly, with a look at the progress NS has made on single tracking.
Unlike past weeks, the MOW activity was light - likely they're focused on the western portion of the single track job. Some high-rail activity around Waverly and some track workers around Owego (MP 233). Signals cut in and track one severed at MP233. Signals installed around MP251 but not active. Both tracks still in service between Waverly and Owego.

Around MP 250-251 there is a new switch and new signals, just visible from the overpass at Barton. New pole at the end of the bridge would seem to be power for signals (?). Square manholes at intervals on both sides of ROW west.
Was ready to head home - strong downpour started and it looked slow... then 38T showed up with CP 9604 - 9670, autoracks and a short string of mixed merchandise freight. So I followed them from Waverly back to Barton. After getting soaked in the process - I went home.
Note that there is also a new signal shack on a built up platform similar to the one on the mast above at MP 254 ( Tioga Mills crossing).

Not really belonging to this page - but I'll include a couple shots of the NS H11 local in Sayre, PA the day before (Oct 5). Train is spotting a string of cars for the Lehigh Railway.
